After long periods of use without being washed, pillows can start to discolour and often turn yellow.
Yellowing is typically caused by a combination of factors, including natural body oils and sweat that accumulate over time.
These substances can seep into the fabric of the pillowcase and pillow, creating unsightly discolouration. What’s more, dust mites, allergens, and skin cells can contribute to the staining.
Heather Webb said: “Well ladies you all know how yellow our hubby’s pillows get I have in the past sprayed with Pink Stuff and left in the bath for a while, then added it to the wash.
“This was great at first, then it didn’t really work so well at removing tough stains anymore.
“But I tried one scoop of Napisan in washer on an hour wash on sixty and it’s like new. Wish I’d taken before photos, it’s brilliant.”
Alongside the post, Heather shared photos of the pillow after using Napisan and they were a bright shade of white.
The post received over 100 comments from group members sharing their thoughts on this product.
Tracey Davis said: “The stuff is amazing, it’s got me hooked.” Debra Roper wrote: “Napisan really good for getting pillows white.”
Posting a picture of the product, Karen Dunn said: “A scoop of this in your washing machine drawer with your usual detergent is the fastest way to whiten your pillows.”
Megan Wallace claimed: “I use Napisan for all of my whites, haven’t found a stain it can’t remove.”
An 800g box of Napisan typically retails for £4.50 in most supermarkets but can be found at Sainsbury’s right now for £4 on nectar price.
As 60g of the product only needs to be used for heavy stains, one wash will only set households back 30p.
After washing, the pillow needs to be dried properly before it can be used again as even the slightest dampness can cause mould and mildew to grow.
To help speed up the drying process, place it in a well-ventilated area, preferably outside in the sun as sunlight can help bleach any remaining stains naturally.
Or households can choose to use dryer balls in the tumble dryer, as they’ll help the hot air to circulate more evenly and efficiently, not only does it reduce drying time, but also saves you money on energy bills too.
