Arsenal defender Ben White was criticised for his role in Switzerland’s goal at Wembley on Saturday as Ainsley Maitland-Niles has made a decision about his future

A transfer decision has been made by Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners midfielder has endured a disappointing loan spell at Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma which is unlikely to be made a permanent move at the end of the season. It means the 24-year-old has a big decision to make about his future come the end of the season after falling out of favour under Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
It comes as Ben White has been defended by Ian Wright after receiving criticism for his performance for England against Switzerland. And Stan Collymore tips Arsenal to choke in the race for Champion League qualification – and promised to take part in a forfeit if he’s wrong.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Arsenal headlines.
Arsenal ‘will choke’
Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur will beat Arsenal to the Premier League’s final Champions League spot, Stan Collymore believes.
The Gunners currently sit in fourth place — three points clear of Spurs and four in front of United, and with a game in hand of both. But Collymore isn’t convinced that Mikel Arteta’s side have what it takes to qualify for Europe’s top competition next season.
And the Mirror Football columnist has even promised to take part in a rather embarrassing forfeit if the Gunners prove him wrong.

White criticised
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has leapt to the defence of the club’s centre-back Ben White after he was criticised for his performance in England’s 2-1 victory against Switzerland on Saturday.
White misjudged the flight of Xherdan Shaqiri’s cross that Breel Embolo headed home in the 22nd minute to silence the Wembley crowd as Switzerland took the lead. Roy Keane was highly critical of White’s role in the goal, but Wright has defended the Arsenal player.
Speaking out about the criticism, Wright offered a very understanding explanation over why White may have been feeling nervous once the game started.
Transfer decision made
Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles has made a decision about his future after being linked with a move away from the Emirates.
The midfielder came close to joining Everton for £10million last summer before Mikel Arteta blocked the move. After failing to break into the first-team set-up he was allowed to leave on loan in the January transfer window, joining Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
But the move to Italy has not quite worked out for Maitland-Niles and he looks set to return to Arsenal at the end of the season. And Premier League clubs could now be on alert in the race to secure the player’s signature after he made a decision about his future.
