Nearly 10 years to the day since David Beckham hung up his boots, his son Romeo Beckham made his first footballing appearance for Inter Miami development side Fort Lauderdale
David Beckham’s son Romeo Beckham carried on the family name, by making his first-ever professional footballing appearance for Inter Miami’s reserve team Fort Lauderdale CF
Just like his iconic father, Beckham was deployed on the right-wing where he enjoyed a productive 79-minute spell, in what was the first game of his career.
He donned the No.11 shirt during his side’s 2-2 home draw against South Georgia Tormenta FC.
While Beckham had many promising moments during the USL League One affair, he still has a lot of room for improvement and development in his game.
His playing style was very similar to that of his father, who became one of the greatest crossers of a ball during his time with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Unfortunately for the 19-year-old, they did not quite carry the same level of accuracy and whip as the former England captain.
However, he did show many promising moments, particularly in the second-half of the match.
He demonstrated a strong understanding and game intelligence in the 57 th minute, when he combined well with Neville to free him down the wing, before Neville crossed dangerously into the box.
Beckham also made a vital interception in the close stages of his appearance, tracking back and carrying out his defensive duties, to help wield off a Tormenta header at the back post.
Frustratingly for Beckham, his lack of understanding with his knew team shone through Lauderdale’s reluctance to attack down the right-hand side.

While Beckham looked to hug the bi-line so he could whip in a cross, the team preferred to use the wide spaces on the left-hand side.
Of course this understanding will only improve when he racks up more training sessions and appearances with the reserve team.
The Miami development side took the lead in the first half courtesy of a 13th minute striker by Mitch Curry.
But they were only ahead of nine minutes as Tormenta FC’s struck back with a well-crafted goal finished off by Azaad Liadi.
They did reclaim the lead just before the end of the first-half after George Acosta hammered an effort of the underside of the crossbar and into the net, but the away side were stubborn and equalised in the last five minutes of the match.
Lauderdale will next travel to Greenville Triumph SC at Legacy Early College on the first October where Beckham could be set for another appearance.
Meanwhile, David Beckham’s Inter Miami side are currently residing in ninth position in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Eastern Conference.
They were on a trajectory having been unbeaten for six matches, and winning three in a row; however, both runs were resoundingly ended by a 4-0 home defeat to Thierry Henry’s former side New York Red Bulls.
The club who have signed the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi next face a difficult home match against second placed Nashville.
