Superyachts, multi-million dollar weddings and celebrity pals – who wants to be a billion-heir?
As these mega-rich kids will no doubt attest, being the offspring of the world’s wealthiest tycoons comes with a few enviable benefits.
But that’s not to say there isn’t the odd challenge too.
This week, Jennifer Gates – the eldest daughter of Microsoft boffin Bill – opened up on the problems of planning her dream wedding while her parents underwent one of the most expensive divorces in modern history.
“It’s been a challenging year, both collectively with the pandemic and for our families going through transitions,” she told Vogue cryptically.
Here, we take a peek inside the incredible lives of Jennifer and other billionaire children – some of whom won’t get a penny of their parents’ fortunes.
Bill Gates daughter’s $2m wedding with Coldplay gig
Jennifer, 25, tied the knot with equestrian Nayel Nassar, 30, over the weekend on her $25million horse farm in North Salem, New York.
All 300 of their wedding guests were required to be vaccinated and take Covid tests at the $2million ceremony, which saw proud Bill walk her down the aisle.

“We made the decision that all guests must be fully vaccinated and receive a negative test result prior to the wedding,” she said
‘We also made masks available. We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to gather with our loved ones safely.”
Over the wedding weekend, guests were treated to meals from some of New York’s top restaurants, while there was a musical performance from no less than Coldplay.
The eldest of three children – including Rory and Phoebe – Jennifer was surprisingly brought up in a technologically limited household.
While her dad famously founded Microsoft, he put a “cap” on screen time for his own kids and his first child wasn’t even allowed to own a phone until she was 14.
By then, Jennifer had already developed a love of horse riding, which she took up when she was six.
She’s considered one of the best young equestrians in the world and with her dad’s money behind her, it’s no surprise.
To support her passion, Bill reportedly spent a whopping $37million on a collection of properties in Wellington, Florida – a hot spot for wealthy horse riders.
Jennifer met husband Nayel – a fellow rider who even competed in the Tokyo Olympics – on the equestrian circuit, and the couple both graduated from Stanford.
In January last year, she announced their engagement on Instagram, writing: “I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives learning, growing, laughing, and loving together.
With an estimated fortune of $132.7billion, her parents’ high profile divorce, which was confirmed in August, dominated headlines across the world.
However, Bill previously told the Daily Mail his kids would only get a “minuscule portion” of his wealth, as he wanted them to “find their own way”.
Steve Jobs’ ‘It girl’ daughter Eve
Her family may be worth an eye-watering £12billion, but Eve Jobs is carving out her own career on the catwalk.
The 23-year-old daughter of late Apple founder Steve Jobs was this month named a Tatler ‘It Girl’ and looked every inch the budding supermodel as she dazzled at Paris Fashion Week.
And it’s just as well, with her mum Laurene revealing that her kids won’t inherit a penny of the multi-billion pound fortune left by her tech guru husband, who died aged 56 in October 2011.
That’s not to say Eve, who like Jennifer Gates has built her name as a talented equestrian, doesn’t enjoy a life of luxury.
Practising on the family’s swanky £11million Florida ranch, she has also been spotted kicking back on a private yacht or two, and loves to post snaps of her glamorous adventures on Instagram.
The youngest of Steve and Laurene’s three children – including son Reed, 30 and daughter Erin, 26 – Eve scored her first major campaign last year as the face of skincare brand Glossier.
Posing in a bathtub, she was photographed with a glass of wine wearing lashings of gold jewellery – not your usual bathtime get-up.
The campaign appears to have paved the way for a career on the catwalk and last month Eve stole the show at Paris Fashion Week.
Strutting her stuff alongside stars like Gigi Hadid, the model wore a fluorescent green top and black mini skirt as she posed for Coperni’s show on September 30.
The young star has reportedly been taken under the wing of supermodel Naomi Campbell, who was snapped alongside her at the Vogue party the following night and regularly comments on her Instagram page.
Earlier this year, she made headlines after going ‘Instagram official’ with musician Harry Hudson.
Harry, who is one of Kylie Jenner ’s closest friends, couldn’t hide his delight, dropping a whole collection of photos of them together on the social media site.
He captioned it: “Took my time yeah yeah”, while Eve posted further snaps of them together with the simple tag “team”.
Elon Musk’s ‘secret school’ for flock of kids
Space X founder Elon Musk may have plans of travelling to Mars one day, but back on Earth he has no less than six kids to look after.
In 2002, the billionaire welcomed his first child, Nevada Alexander Musk, with his then-wife Justine Wilson.

However, the tot tragically passed away at just 10 weeks old from sudden infant death syndrome.
“Elon made it clear that he did not want to talk about Nevada’s death,” Justine later wrote in Marie Claire.
“I didn’t understand this, just as he didn’t understand why I grieved openly, which he regarded as ’emotionally manipulative’.
“I buried my feelings instead, coping with Nevada’s death by making my first visit to an IVF clinic less than 2 months later. Elon and I planned to get pregnant again as swiftly as possible.”
Two years later, the couple welcomed twins Griffin and Xavier, who were conceived through IVF. Triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian Musk were born in 2006.
Following Elon and Justine’s divorce in 2008, little has been reported about their children.
However, in 2014 the tech mogul did reveal that he had pulled his five kids out of school and enrolled them in a secretive institution he’d set up himself.
“There aren’t any grades,” Musk said of his school, called Ad Astra. “It makes more sense to cater the education to match their aptitudes and abilities.”
Since then, almost nothing has leaked about the LA school, which has no public website, phone number or staff details.
But after being granted a rare tour of the facility, Peter Diamandis, chairman of the X Prize Foundation, explained it had a heavy focus on ‘moral’ thinking.
“One element that is persistent in that small school of 31 kids is the conversation about ethics and morals, a conversation manifested by debating real-world scenarios that our kids may one day face,” he wrote for Huff Post.
Last year, Elon and his then-girlfriend Grimes welcomed a baby boy, which they initially named X Æ A-12.
The unusual moniker was said to have been inspired by a track from the musician’s album, 4ÆM.
Branson children friends with Prince Harry
Virgin boss Richard Branson met his current wife, Joan Templeman, in 1976, and they were married in 1989 on Necker Island.
They have two children together, daughter Holly and son Sam, born in 1981 and 1985 respectively.

Earlier this year, Holly, 39 – now a mum of three with husband Freddie Andrewes – revealed she lived as a boy for several years during her childhood.
Speaking on Natalie Pinkham’s In The Pink podcast, she said: “I, at the age of four, decided I was a boy. It wasn’t that I wanted to be a boy, it was that I was a boy.”
She explained the decision came shortly after Sam’s birth and wondered if it was a “psychological thing”, adding: ‘I absolutely believed I was a boy – I stood up to pee, I dressed like a boy, I even gave myself different male names.
“This wasn’t just a quick thing that stopped after a few months or years, it lasted until I was nearly 11.”
Holly, a former junior doctor, has worked with her dad at Virgin since 2008 and is the company’s chief purpose and vision officer.
After suffering two miscarriages and going through two failed rounds of IVF, she revealed she and Freddie had considered adoption and surrogacy – breavely opening up about her experience in her book WEconomy.
However, in December 2014, she revealed she had given birth to twins Etta and Arte.
In a statement at the time, she gushed: “Freddie and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our beautiful twins. One boy, one girl and they are absolutely perfect (but who wouldn’t say that about their kids!).
“Despite being delivered early, all three of us are fit and well and Freddie and I are now enjoying some quality time with our newly formed family.”
Sam, meanwhile, has pursued a career as an actor and is the co-founder of a production company called Sundog Pictures.
The 36-year-old’s film debut came in the blockbuster Superman Returns and he has two kids with Isabella Calthorpe, whom he married in what was described as a “nearly royal wedding” in 2013.
While Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie both attended the bash, close pal Prince Harry unfortunately couldn’t make it.
“Harry’s a good friend and a great guy,” said Sam. “We did invite him and he wanted to come but he was in South Africa the week before with official duties so the timings didn’t work out.”
Jeff Bezos’ brainy son and mysterious adopted daughter
The multi-billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has four children with his ex wife, novelist MacKenzie Scott.
Bezos has three sons and one daughter yet, surprisingly for the children of the world’s wealthiest man, they remain somewhat in the shadows.
Bezos married ex-wife Scott in 1993, having met at the hedge fund D.E Shaw where they both used to work.
The pair divorced in 2019, with the couple now sharing child custody.
After 25 years of marriage, the couple released a statement via Twitter, saying, “As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.”
Their eldest, 21 year-old Preston , was born in 2000 and is currently at Princeton University, the highly academic university his father graduated from in 1986.
Preston is similar to Jeff in more ways than one – being named after his father’s middle name.
It has been reported that Preston’s mum received the equivalent of £27billion in Amazon stocks following the pair’s divorce settlement.
Jeff and MacKenzie adopted their one-and-only daughter from China. Her name remains unknown, but she is believed to be the youngest of the family.
The other two sons – believed to be teenagers – also remain unknown.
