Florida: Search for Gabby Petito reaches second day

Remains matching the description of Gabby Petito have been found.

The 22-year-old vanished after she left a hotel with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie, in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the US, on August 24.

She had been making a social media blog as she travelled around the United States with her fiancé before her disappearance.

Laundrie, 23, returned to their home in North Port, Florida, on September 1 without Gabby, who has not been seen or heard from.

Police named him as a person of interest in her disappearance on Wednesday.

Charles Jones, of FBI Denver said in a press conference remains matching Gabby’s description were found at the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming but they have not yet ‘100% confirmed’ it’s her.

Mr Jones said her family have been informed.

North Port Police tweeted on Sunday that they are still looking for Mr Laundrie, who has now been missing for several days.

On Saturday night, Gabby’s family released a statement through their attorney that said: “All of Gabby’s family want the world to know that Brian is not missing, he is hiding. Gabby is missing.”

More than 50 police officers were accompanied by FBI agents, drones, K-9 and bloodhounds to search for Mr Laundrie.

Florida Police spokesman Josh Taylor said at a new conference that Mr Laundrie’s family said they last saw him leaving on Tuesday with a backpack on.

He said he was going to the Carlton Reserve. Both he and Gabby are now listed as missing persons.

In a press conference on Thursday, Gabby’s father, Joseph Petito, said: “What I need from everybody is help.

That goal is to bring Gabby home safely. I’m asking for help from everyone here. I’m asking for help from everyone at home.

“I’m asking for help from the parents of Brian, and I’m asking for help from the family members and friends of the Laundrie family as well.”
