A 17-year-old boy has allegedly stabbed his mum to death after she told him off for watching too much television.

Police said the teen attacked his 34-year-old mother who complained to him for dropping out of school, being unemployed and wasting his time in front of the screen.

After being scolded by his mum, the teen allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed her in the stomach.

Police spokesperson Fachrur Rozi said the boy was immediately remorseful and ran outside to ask neighbours for help.

His mother was taken to hospital, but she died from her injuries later in the evening.

The incident happened in the town of Jepara in the Indonesian province of Central Java on Sunday afternoon, officers said.

The boy’s father was not at home when the attack took place, police said.

According to local media reports, the mum tried to protect her son by telling him to invent a lie about what had happened after he stabbed her.

She reportedly told him: “A mother’s love knows no bounds, tell your father I was stabbed by an insane person who entered the house.”

The police said the teen asked for help from neighbours while claiming his mother had been attacked by a crazy man.

However, the teen’s neighbours did not believe him and reported the incident to the police.

The boy later confessed under questioning that he had stabbed his own mother and was arrested, according to reports.

If convicted, the teen could be jailed for up to 15 years and face a fine of around IDR 45 million (£2,315).

A police investigation is ongoing.
