Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos admits he is “very angry” at Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele for not honouring his call-up to the national team.
The 21-year-old has been a star performer for the Buccaneers during the domestic campaign, and Broos included Mosele in the 23-man Bafana squad for the 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia.
However, Broos had to call on SuperSport United youngster Jesse Donn as Mosele withdrew from the squad without any communication to the Bafana team management.
“I am not disappointed; I am very angry,” Broos told SAFA media after Bafana’s training session at Dobsonville Stadium on Monday night.
“I don’t understand how a player who [is in line to win] his first cap for the national team of his country doesn’t even come to the camp.
“He didn’t call us. We don’t know why he’s not coming. I can understand that… maybe, the player doesn’t want to play for Bafana Bafana, but then he should tell me that.
“I would have to respect that. Everybody is free to decide if he will play or not, but we didn’t hear anything from him.
“We tried to reach him; he is unreachable. So, I am very angry with such behaviour from a player who could be an international for his country.”
Broos and Bafana travel to the East African side this week for a match on Saturday, 9 October (kick-off is at 15:00), before welcoming the same opponents for the return leg at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 12 October (18:00).
