A couple who matched on a vegan-only dating app during the pandemic are celebrating the birth of their first baby, who they also plan to raise on a plant-based diet.
Baby Elise was born on July 8, becoming the first known offspring whose parents were brought together by vegan and vegetarian dating app Veggly.
Her parents Fabio and Danielle, who both eat plant-based diets, matched on the app back in May 2020.
And today, the couple, who live in São Paulo, Brazil, shared the news of the addition to their family.
Danielle said the pair were “over the moon”, and she felt grateful to the creators of the dating app for bringing them together.
“Our dreams have come true and we are overjoyed to welcome Elise into the world,” she said.
“It can be so difficult to find a vegan or vegetarian partner – without the app, I would not have met Fabio, especially as we used to live almost 15km away from each other.

“If it weren’t for our ‘Veg-Match’, we wouldn’t be here with Elise in our arms right now.”
Fabio shared Danielle’s sentiment, saying it can be difficult, especially in places like Brazil, to find other vegans and veges who share their values.
“And there is no place for meeting people like that – there’s no special meet up place like a nightclub, so it’s very hard to find a relationship with a-vegan/veggie person,” she said.
“If you are vegan/veggie who is with a meat-eater, it is so hard to find somewhere to go out for dinner that will cater for vegan and meat-eater together – it will always be a struggle for those people.”
Fabio said meeting Danielle had been “wonderful”.

“She brings light to my life and we are so lucky to have Elise in our lives now as well” he said.
Veggly founder Alex Felipelli said hearing about Danielle and Fabio’s connection, and the birth of Elise, was a “dream come true”.
“I know it can be hard to find your vegan partner in this world sometimes – I have been there myself in the past!” he said.
“But it’s worth the effort, and it certainly helps to have a platform that connects us to like minded people.”
