Nine-year-old Mahra Melin Pinar from Turkey died 23 days after she was hit by a truck when she was fleeing from stray dogs, cradling two kittens
A nine-year-old girl tragically died 23 days after she was hit by a truck while trying to flee from stray dogs.
Mahra Melin Pinar ran into the road as she was being chased by two stray dogs, when she was hit by a passing truck.
When she ran into the road, she was cradling two kittens before she was hit in the south-western Turkish province of Antalya, around 10am on March 5.
In the immediate aftermath, the nine-year-old had to have her right leg amputated above the knee.
She would then go on to tragically die on the 23rd day of treatment, despite the best efforts of medics.
Footage shows how the child was left limp on the tarmac, unable to move with her limbs mangled and blood pouring beneath her.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and after receiving first aid, Mahra Melin was taken to hospital.
In an operation that lasted nearly four hours, her right leg was amputated above the knee.
Mahra’s heartbroken dad Murat Pinar said that he had rushed to his badly injured daughter in the wake of the horror smash.
He said she asked him: “I won’t die, will I, daddy?”
Mr Pinar revealed that his daughter had been outside because “she was going to make a little house for [some stray] cats”.
The 9-year-old had then run as dogs chased her.
Local reports said Mahra died on Thursday (March 31).
Her family were left heartbroken by her passing and she was buried in her local neighbourhood.
The truck driver has been named by local media as Irfan Yayla, but it is not known if he faces repercussions for his actions.
