Harry Kane came off the bench to score a 19-minute hat-trick as Tottenham eventually eased past Slovenian side Mura in the Europa Conference League.
Fresh from their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo would have been concerned that an upset could be on the cards when Ziga Kous lashed the visitors to within one goal of the Premier League giants shortly after the break.
But after bringing on Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura in a 59th minute triple substitution, Nuno saw Kane’s treble complete what was eventually a comfortable 5-1 victory.
Spurs needed just four minutes to go ahead against the lowest-ranked team in the competition.
Dele Alli, captain for the evening, was brought down by goalkeeper Matko Obradovic, and he stepped up from the spot and fired home.
It was 2-0 in the eighth minute as Giovani Lo Celso burst into the box and curled home in fine style.
Spurs controlled the rest of the half and had chances to extend their lead but Alli saw an effort saved and Oliver Skipp fired wide from a good position.
The Slovenian outfit reduced the arrears eight minutes after the restart as Spurs failed to clear a corner and Ziga Kous sent a 25-yard volley into the bottom corner.
Spurs needed to call on Kane from the bench and he bagged after 10 minutes to restore the two-goal lead.
A nice piece of movement saw him played in by Lucas Moura’s pass and he fired home with a first-time finish.
Kane grabbed his second 15 minutes from time, finishing off a clinical counter-attack after Lo Celso had set Son free and the South Korean’s cross was coolly converted.
Kane completed his hat-trick in the 88th minute, collecting Lo Celso’s pass and sliding home.
