America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel has shared an update on his health after collapsing at a Starbucks on Wednesday.
The comedian was at the establishment with his wife and friends when he passed out and was rushed to hospital.
On Thursday, he shared an update on Twitter, saying he was back home and “doing better”.
Now, in a YouTube video alongside his daughter, Jackelyn Shultz, Howie explained what led to the incident.
“I was dehydrated,” Howie said, adding that he had a colonoscopy “a few days ago”.
“They empty you out. You take a drink, and you empty out. I have consensual diarrhoea for an entire night,” he continued, saying that he was left dehydrated after that.
Howie said that immediately after having the colonoscopy, he went straight back to work. “All I kind of lived on was coffee and caffeine, which also exacerbates dehydration, I was told.”
All of this resulted in the TV personality passing out at Starbucks. “It was also the cost of the caramel macchiato venti that just threw me over the edge,” he joked.
When his daughter asked if he had hit his head when falling, Howie cleared the air, saying: “I got really dizzy and could not stand up. I don’t think I ever lost consciousness. And I got totally soaked with sweat. For somebody who’s dehydrated, I had a lot of sweat in me.
“And then next thing I know, I was surrounded by the fire department. They took me to the hospital, did all these tests on my heart. I’m really good.”
The star ended the video by thanking first responders and the staff at the hospital.
