Experts said the quake, which happened around 220km south of the islands of Karpathos and Rhodes this morning, was felt as far away as Syria, Egypt, Israel and Turkey
Tremors have been felt for hundreds of miles after an earthquake struck off the coast of Greece.
Estimates for the magnitude of the quake in the eastern Mediterranean range between 5.8 and 6.4 on the Richter scale.
It is unclear whether it has caused any injuries, but the force was reportedly felt in Turkey, Egypt, Syria and Israel.
Dramatically video shows buildings shaking during the terrifying incident.
The epicentre is 149km south east of Karpathos, the US United States Geological Survey (USGS) said in an update this morning.
It estimated the magnitude to be 6.0 – slightly lower than the 6.4 asserted by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (ESMC).

It later said the quake had happened around 219k south of Rodos.
One Twitter user responded to the agency: “The earthquake was well felt in Jerusalem.”
Another wrote: “In Helwan, Cairo was very strong.”
The tremor was felt on the islands of Crete, Santorini and Rhodes, Greek State TV said.
CCTV video purportedly from Crete in the aftermath of the earthquake shows shop shelves swaying as the building shakes.
Items can be seen falling to the floor, but furniture does not topple in the clip.
Just last week a6.4 magnitude quake hit the Greek island of Crete, with a tsunami warning issued.
Last Wednesday’s quake hit the east coast of the island at a depth of 10km, causing terrifying tremors.
