Kim Kardashian has addressed the backlash she received for a piece of advice she recently offered.
During an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday, the Skims CEO set the record straight.
“Well, that statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it,” Kardashian explained.
“It became a sound bite, really, with no context. And that sound bite came off the notion and the question right before, which was after 20 years of being in the business, you’re famous for being famous.”
Kim added that “it wasn’t a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think that they don’t work hard.
“I know that they do. It was taken out of context, but I’m really sorry if it was received that way.”
Earlier this month, the reality TV star said she had “the best advice for women in business” during an interview with Variety about her family’s new reality show on Hulu.
“Get your fucking ass up and work,” Kardashian said, adding that “it seems like nobody wants to work these days”.
Kardashian was dragged for her initial comment, with many pointing out the reality TV star’s privileged upbringing.
Furthermore, her comment was used in a joke during Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony.
Co-hosts Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes teased legendary actor Dame Judi Dench for losing out to West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose, in the Best Supporting Actress category.
“Dame Judy Dench, we got something for you. We got an inspirational quote for you. This is a quote from Kim Kardashian: ‘Work harder,’ that’s what we need you to do,” Hall says to a laughing Dench.
