Re: “Washington’s designated crisis responders, a ‘last resort’ in mental health care, face overwhelming demand” [Aug. 11, Mental Health Project]:
Kudos to Esmy Jimenez and others connected to The Seattle Times Mental Health Project. Your continued coverage never fails to educate us about the myriad challenges involved in assisting people with severe mental illness and/or substance abuse challenges. There simply are no easy answers.
Personal connections are critical, yet there are no more country doctors in our complex urban environment. Instead, we have social workers, counselors, medics, police, hospital ER staff, jail staff, court staff. The constant for some is family, but it’s common for family ties to be stressed to the breaking point.
I feel for all the people who need help and all those who are doing their best to provide help. Again, I’m grateful for your coverage.
