Klopp gives injury update on Alexander-Arnold and Salah

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has slammed the treatment of Mohamed Salah during Egypt’s recent World Cup qualifier against Sadio Mane’s Senegal.

Salah was targeted with lasers during the game’s penalty shoot-out as Senegal beat Egypt on penalties in their qualifying play-off. And Klopp has shown his displeasure at the shocking events his player had to go through as the tie reached its climax.

It comes as the Liverpool manager has given an unexpected Trent Alexander-Arnold injury update after the full-back suffered a hamstring injury before the international break. And the Reds could be set for a £2.5million transfer boost thanks to one of their Premier League rivals.

Reds could get £2.5million boost

Liverpool could be handed a £2.5million transfer boost thanks to a former player.

Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi left the Reds at the end of last season to join Union Berlin for approximately £6.5million following a successful loan spell at the German club. And the forward has been in impressive form in the Bundesliga ever since, bagging 11 goals in 24 appearances for his new side.

That has reportedly led to interest in the player from a number of Premier League outfits – and the Reds could stand to profit if any of them do make a move for the striker.

Unexpected injury boost

Trent Alexander-Arnold could be back in contention for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team a lot sooner than expected following the hamstring injury he picked during the international break.

The Liverpool player sustained a thigh injury in the closing stages of Wednesday’s 1-0 win against Austria and had to pull out of the England squad. Fears had been raised that the Reds ace may have been forced to sit out of his side’s crunch Premier League trip to Manchester City next weekend, but the full-back could even be back as early as Saturday’s lunchtime’s visit of Watford.

Salah treatment slammed

Jurgen Klopp has said Mohamed Salah’s treatment during Egypt’s penalty loss to Senegal in their World Cup qualifying play-off was not “cool”.

Salah had lasers shone in his eyes as he prepared to take his penalty in the shootout, which Egpyt lost 3-1 to Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane’s Senegal. And while Klopp has said he is “really happy for Sadio” after his side qualified for the World Cup later this year, he slammed the treatment of Salah by the supporters in the stadium who shone lasers at him.
