The Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, has found its Bobby Brown.

Deadline reports that Moonlight actor Ashton Sanders will play the New Edition frontman.

Star Wars actor Naomi Ackie has been cast as the songstress in the upcoming film written by Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody) and directed by Kasi Lemons (Harriet).

On casting, the 28-year-old executive producer Stella Meghie said at the time: “Naomi Ackie impressed us at every stage of the process. I was moved by her ability to capture the stage presence of a global icon while bringing humanity to her interior life.”

The film will take audiences on an emotional, energetic journey through Houston’s career and music, reports Deadline.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody is scheduled to be released on 23 December 2022.

Last week Warner Bros announced that a remake of the 1992 movie The Bodyguard starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner is in the works.
