Food bills are rising as the supermarket shop gets more expensive for the everyday family.

This means now more than ever, it pays to cut back where you can.

If you need inspiration on how to save cash, one mum-of-two has explained a nifty app trick that gets you discounted food.

Dominika Bien, 33, a business mentor from London, is a regular user of the Too Good To Go app.

Too Good To Go partners up with retailers and smaller, independent shops to sell “magic bags” of food that would otherwise be thrown out at the end of the day.

So as well as keeping more money in your pocket, you’re also helping to save the planet.

Prices start from around £2 for a bag. The only downside is you can’t choose what food you get – it depends on what is available that day.

Some of the bigger businesses Too Good To Go works with include Morrisons, Greggs, Costa and Marks and Spencer.

Recently, Dominika got bags of food worth £60 for just £19.

This included £20 of sushi for £6.78 and £8 of Greggs produce for £2.59.

Dominika posted a pic of her Co-op haul

Dominika told LatestDeals.co.uk : “When I learned about the Too Good To Go app from my sister a few months ago, I instantly decided to check it out.

“After downloading it and putting my location, I found out that a few businesses in my area are working with Too Good To Go.

“The app is very easy to use and it lets you choose the distance within 30km with all the businesses that offer the bags.

“The great thing is that the app offers magic bags at various times, from morning to late night so there is something for everyone.

Sushi was included in the haul

“Once you reserve and pay for the magic bags of your choice, you are informed about the collection time.

“You go to the business within the stated time slot and swipe in the app collection of the bag.”

In her most recent haul, Dominika collected two magic bags from Starbucks, two magic bags from a local sushi place, Hunnu, one magic bag from Greggs and one bag from Co-op.

“I paid £19 for over £60 worth of food,” she said.

“Apart from the amazing savings and helping to prevent food waste, we get to try some new food that we might have not tried before.

“My kids loved the surprise element of not knowing what is inside the bags.”
