  • Lerai Rakoditsoe has been announced as the first-ever African host for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards broadcast on the continent on NickToons.
  • In 2021 the 19-year-old was announced as Nickelodeon’s first African presenter.
  • “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I am not taking it lightly,” said Rakoditsoe.

Jumping at global opportunities that were only but a dream for 19-year-old NickMusic presenter Lerai Rakoditsoe has quickly become a reality.

The biggest kids’ choice awards are around the corner, and it has been announced that Africa will have its first-ever host, Rakoditsoe, for the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2022.

Rakoditsoe is no stranger to the slimy limelight as she was Africa’s first presenter last year.

Twelve months later, she takes it up a notch as the official host of the broadcast awards.

“This has been such a wonderful way to begin the year; I’m delighted that my efforts have been recognised not only locally and across the continent but have given me the opportunity to play a part in the global phenomenon that is the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards,” said Rakoditsoe in a statement.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I am not taking it lightly. I’m grateful for the constant support I get from the team at Paramount and the love from all the Nick cheering fans,” said the NickMusic presenter.

The awaed show honours the finest in television, movies, music, and sports, as voted on by Nickelodeon network viewers worldwide.

Executive head of content strategy and  third party channels at MultiChoice, Georginah Machiridza, said, “It is incredible to see young African talent grow and represent the continent globally.”

“Lerai being selected to host the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards is a testament that our talent is on-par with the rest of the world. We are proud to be the home of channels like Nickelodeon that promote African talent locally and globally,” said Machiridza.

African superstars from various disciplines have also been recognised, such as Major League DJz, Makhadzi, Pitso Mosimane and Nigerian singer Tems who are nominated for the Favourite African Star category.

Tems is double-nominated this year – in addition to being nominated as an African Star, she’s representing Africa in the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award category for Global Music Star.

“I’m ecstatic to have been nominated for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in 2022. It’s a dream come true to be recognised and appreciated all around the world. I’d like to congratulate and wish all of the African nominees the best of luck this year,” said Tems in a statement.

Amapiano cool kid Kabelo Vincent Ndlovu, popularly known as Uncle Vinny, also received a nod for the Favourite African Kidfluencer category.

Among the few nominated for the same category are Ntando Duma’s daughter, Sbahle Mzizi, Adaeze Onuigbo, Masaka Kids Africana, Sassy Taylor Morrison, and popular TikToker Witney Ramabulana.

The Lerai-hosted Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2022 will be broadcast on NickToons (DStv 308) on 13 April 2022 at 13:30 WAT/14:30 CAT.
