On Dec. 7, 1991, I sat with my parents watching the 50th anniversary events at the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii.

My mother was softly crying, and as I gave her a hug, she told me she was remembering all the Raymond (Washington) boys who never came home.
