Pityana says a Friday decision by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, which saw
him fail in his bid to obtain a trove of documents from Absa, proves the Prudential
Authority (PA), the banking regulator that falls under the auspices of the SA Reserve
Bank (SARB), illegally blocked his nomination for the Absa chair role in 2021. In a
May 10 court ruling, Pityana succeeded in his quest to obtain Absa’s record of
decision on his axing, which he wants set aside, though Friday’s ruling
squashed his attempt to obtain additional disclosures on the Absa chair
succession process as part of his legal proceedings against the PA.
