Royal Mail has explained to customers why some could be facing delays this week. Britons may have to wait for collections or deliveries.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these circumstances beyond our control.”

Resourcing issues have hit many parts of the UK over the last year.

They have been a result of the coronavirus pandemic and colleagues being asked to self-isolate.

A Royal Mail statement explained: “Like the rest of the UK, our people are following Government and NHS advice on self-isolation and social distancing.

DON’T MISS

“In a small number of our delivery offices we occasionally experience resourcing issues if a significant number of employees have to self-isolate for a period of time.

“This, along with the continued rise in parcels as more people shop online, can restrict our ability to provide full delivery services.”

When delays are likely, the postal service aims to delivery mail as quickly as possible.

“We may not be able to get to your address every day,” Royal Mail continued.

“But we will do everything we can to deliver to you as often as possible and to return services to normal as soon as we can.

“If resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures prevent this, we’ll deliver at least every other day.

“It’s only in extreme cases – where offices are severely affected by absence levels – that this may not be possible.”

It apologised for any possible delays and stated it would still prioritise coronavirus letters and test kits.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding,” it stated.

“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resources available.

“And we’re ensuring we prioritise the delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters and test kits.”

Royal Mail reported there are no other known delays in the UK which means most should receive their mail as expected.
