An urgent search has been launched in mountainous terrain north of Melbourne for a missing helicopter that is believed to have seven people on board, in Australia.
Emergency services were called around 9.35am on Thursday after reports an aircraft had vanished at Victoria’s Mount Disappointment.
Two helicopters are believed to have been travelling in convoy when one of the aircraft disappeared.
“At this stage the second helicopter is yet to be located,” Victoria Police said.
Low cloud is hampering the widespread search which includes a police helicopter and an air ambulance as well as rescue teams on the ground. A command post has been set up at Mount Disappointment, near Whittlesea.

Emergency services have said no further details were available at this stage.
There are reported to be seven people on board the helicopter.
Ambulance Victoria stated: “Crews are making their way to the scene and the air ambulance has been dispatched,’ Ambulance Victoria said in a statement.
“No further details are available at this stage.”
