Re: “Sustainable aviation fuel: An important step in international trade” [Oct. 5, Opinion]:
The Op-Ed on aviation fuels labeled sustainable does not highlight the vast amounts of land that would be needed for sustainable aviation fuels, the deforestation it could cause and the fact that renewable jet fuel only reduces carbon emissions by 30% to 50%.
In this time of climate crisis, we should not focus on unsustainable growth and international trade. We need to ignore the greenwashing solutions presented by the aviation and fossil-fuel industries and their allies. Instead, our energy should be placed on regenerative solutions that address the root causes of the crises and don’t let polluting industries off the hook.
