Although it’s nowhere near as big as WhatsApp – Telegram has around 500 million users – Monday’s outage has certainly helped give it a serious boost with the company confirming that over 70 million people rushed to join on Monday alone.
That’s a record and could give WhatsApp a serious headache in the future if all those people decide to stick with the switch.
Explaining more about the news Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, said: “Yesterday Telegram experienced a record increase in user registration and activity.
“The daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day.
