Tories won’t have to show proof of Covid statues to get into Conservative Party conference – despite Sajid Javid telling care staff ‘get a jab, or get a different job’.
Party faithful descend on Manchester today for the party’s annual get-together.
But to prevent a revolt from anti-vaccine passport members, attendees won’t have to show the NHS pass to prove they’re Covid-free when they arrive at the conference centre.
At last week’s Labour conference in Manchester, attendees arriving on Saturday and Sunday were required to show proof of vaccine or test status and wear a wristband to get into the conference centre or hotel.
But the Conservative Party won’t require proof of covid status.
Instead, the party’s website says “we are encouraging” double vaccination, a negative test or natural immunity.
But it reads: “In light of the Government’s recent announcement that COVID status certification will not be mandatory at this point, you will not be asked to show your NHS COVID Pass at the entrance.”
It goes on: “We encourage attendees to take free Lateral Flow Tests while they are at conference.”
This morning, Tory Health Secretary Sajid Javid urged care workers who “can’t be bothered” to get vaccinated to get a different job.
He told the BBC: “”If you want to work in a care home you are working with some of the most vulnerable people in our country and if you cannot be bothered to go and get vaccinated, then get out and go and get another job.”

He added: “If you want to look after them, if you want to cook for them, if you want to feed them, if you want to put them to bed, then you should get vaccinated.
“If you are not going to get vaccinated then why are you working in care?
“If you think about your elderly relatives you might have in care homes, and the idea that someone wants to look after them and they don’t want to take a perfectly safe and effective vaccine that has been approved by our regulators, been used all over the world, because somehow they have got some objection to this vaccine, then really, honestly, they shouldn’t be in our care homes.
“They should go and get another job. I am very clear on that.”
