Tragedy as toddler mauled to death by ‘agitated’ pit bull at uncle’s house

Little Kavay Louis-Calderon was said to have been inside the family home in Akron, Ohio when the pit bull became agitated as neighbours said they heard the little girl scream during the dog attack

A toddler was mauled to death by a dog at her uncle’s house following an argument between two people.

Kavay Louis-Calderon, who was just 16-months-old, was said to have been inside the family home when a man, believed to be the girl’s uncle, was arguing with a woman outside the home.

Police said one of the two pitbulls at the home became agitated during the row.

The girl did not live at the home, but was being looked after by her uncle when the tragedy occurred.

Kavay was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time after her arrival on Sunday.

A neighbour said he heard the little girl screaming as she was being attacked.

He told WKYC : “That’s what I can’t get out of my head – her screaming.

“And the 911 operator carrying that baby out – that will always be with me.”

The man added he wouldn’t let his grandkids play outside, because he didn’t know whether the dogs were inside the house.

A police spokesman said the woman involved in the argument had left the property and the man had gone back inside the house when he discovered what had happened.

“He ran back outside the house and asked a neighbour to call 911,” the officer said.

The officer said “nobody wanted this to happen”.

He went on to say he was “reluctant” to lay blame on anybody at this stage of the investigation.

No other injuries were reported in the tragic incident on the weekend, which remained under police investigation.

Earlier this week the Mirror reported on another horror dog attack in British Colombia which left a baby with a chunk of her cheek missing.

Eleven-month-old RosieMay Fitchett had been petting two small dogs at the beach, from the safety of her aunt’s arms, when a larger animal suddenly lunged at her.

The animal tore off a chunk of her cheek under her eye, creating a large wound that left her covered in blood.

The baby has since had several operations to rebuild her face, and has spent her first birthday in a hospital.

The horror incident happened when her family went to a beach for their first gathering after lockdown in July.
