Two people have been killed and there are several “seriously injured” in a shooting by a nightclub in Oslo, with police calling it an “active” situation.
Emergency services rushed to the London pub, on Rosenkrantz Road, in the city centre after receiving reports of gunfire around 1.15am.
“Several shots were fired at a nightclub in the city centre. We will return with more information. There are injured people,” tweeted Norwegian Police.
They then updated it to say that two people had died.
“Two people have been confirmed dead in the shooting episode. There are several seriously injured,” it said.
“The police are defining the situation as a PLIVO (ongoing) incident.”
Norwegian police have said that a suspect has been arrested close to the scene.
The shooting is believed to have broken out around 1.15am local time causing panic at the nightclub with people fleeing the scene.
The club is popular with the gay community and this weekend Pride is being celebrated in Oslo.
A witness who had been at the nightclub said that he thought there had been up to 20 shots fired.
“I was just down the street when I heard 10, 15, maybe 20 shots. Then people started running,” the clubber told media outlet Dagbladet.
He said that many people had sheltered in a smoking area by the London pub and that there was quickly a huge police presence on the scene.
“I have never seen so many blue lights in Oslo before,” he added.
