Tyson Fury calls Deontay Wilder ‘weak’ as row erupts at press conference
Tyson Fury spent $1,500 on a special coffee grinder ahead of his fight with Deontay Wilder, which fuelled him and his team during camp.
The world heavyweight champion locked himself away in his Las Vegas training base ahead of the trilogy bout against Wilder, his first career defence of a world title.
And he is reportedly being fuelled by a lot of coffee, as are the rest of his team, including head trainer SugarHill Steward.
His chef George Lockhart, who has also worked with the likes of Conor McGregor with his nutrition, has prepared him for the bout by cooking meals that amount to as much as 5,000 calories a day.
Lockhart, speaking to leading coffee retailer Coffee Friend, said: “Coffee absolutely helps Tyson Fury in his preparations, 100 percent.
“Tyson uses it for performance and for a social thing. Every morning when the guys get up, everyone in the team has a cup of coffee.
“Coffee is a huge deal to Tyson. Him and Sugar Hill bought this $1500 coffee machine, it’s insane. I thought all coffee tasted the same until I tried it.
“It helps him out with focus and energy levels.”
Fury is eating a series of large but nutritious meals to prepare for the bout, and weighed in at a career highest 277 lbs at last night’s weigh-ins.
And Lockhart says that he is having one fish, one chicken, and one piece of red meat with every meal as he looks to bulk up and increase the power behind his punches in an effort to once again stop Wilder.
“First thing in the morning Tyson is definitely going to have a coffee with his breakfast and what he eats is dictated by the activities of the day,” Lockhart continued.
“But one thing that’s constant every single day is he has: one fish, one chicken, and one red meat throughout the day in each one of his meals.
Will Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder once again in this fight? Let us know in the comments section!
“It might go up and it might go down but he consumes about 5000 calories a day.
“He doesn’t have any cheat meals, he does not really crave anything. He also gets things like yoghurts and fruit bowls, so we give him tons of antioxidants.
“He gets those with the fruit but through the coffee as well, which is great at getting rid of pre-radicals.
“When you workout as much as Tyson does you create a lot of pre-radicals. We want to make sure we keep that stress down and keep him healthy.”
Fury is a considerable favourite going into his third fight with Wilder having beaten him in their last outing after their first fight ended in a draw.
He brutally stopped Wilder at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in February of last year, dropping the American twice before the bout was eventually called off in the seventh round when his corner threw in the towel.
