Harry Styles has released the first single and music video from his upcoming third studio album, Harry’s House.
The synth-pop inspired track, As It Was, features thought-provoking lyrics as the 28-year-old sings about personal transitions and struggles.
“Answer the phone/Harry, you’re no good alone/Why are you sitting at home on the floor?/What kind of pills are you on?/Ringin’ the bell/ And nobody’s coming to help/ Your daddy lives by himself/He just wants to know that you’re well,” he sings.
The music video featuring Styles dancing and at one point stripping down was filmed in London by Ukrainian director Tanu Muino.
Muino said filming the singer was bittersweet.
“Shooting [Styles] was bittersweet, as it was one of the happiest days of my life, but on the second day of the shoot, my country Ukraine was invaded, so you can imagine the insane emotions we had while shooting,” he said in a statement per NME.
“Me and my team from Ukraine poured so much love into this video, and you can see it onscreen.”

The child’s voice featured at the beginning of the track is his five-year-old goddaughter Ruby Winston.
Speaking to Heart Radio, the singer said he dug up the voice note while in the studio and added it to the song.
He explained: “She had a streak of calling me every night. I missed it one night, and she wanted to let me know that she was quite angry with me. I dug it up in the studio one day and added it to the song, and it stuck, and I loved it.”
On the inspiration behind the song, Styles said that he tries to write from a personal experience in almost everything.
“I think over the last couple of years, with the forced pause for all of us, I had a lot of time to think about and work out who I was away from music and get more comfortable with that. I think that allowed me to make this album and get to a liberated place and feel a lot less pressure like music is the only thing in my life.”
